Let’s talk about Trees …

And Covid, of course (can we imagine a time when  Covid-19 does not dominate our conversations?

Getting back to trees.

 

We planted 300 saplings before Christmas (we also planted more trees in April but they’re still at the ‘twig’ stage yet) with the help of Dunbarney Primary School, the Bridge of Earn Scouts, and various local children and families. The trees came to us from the Woodland Trust, and we are very grateful.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We’ve been keeping our beady eye on the saplings, and one of the jobs required is to remove weeds and grass from around the saplings, so they have less competition for nutrients from the soil. I never knew that you could get repetetive strain injury from weeding tiny offenders. Damp muddy knees – I did know about.

In a few years time, this will provide a green corridoor for all sorts of wildlife.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We planted wild cherry, downy birch, goat willow, hazel, rowan, oak, crab apple, dogwood, holly, blackthorn, silver birch, hawthorn …

Hedgerows support up to 80% of our woodland birds, 50% of mammals and 30% of butterflies.

UPDATE ON LIFTING OF COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS FROM 17 MAY 2021

We’ve opened our doors again and have welcomed back some of our lovely regulars and some new guests too.

It’s lovely to have the buzz of people being around again.

From 17th May we are allowed to have up to 6 people from 3 households inside a lodge (8 people from 8 households outside)

This is great news for our families who book several lodges together – they can now socialise inside if they so wish.

Pubs and restaurants can serve alcohol inside until 10.30pm.

Cinemas, theatres, concert halls etc can all open.

International travel: there’s a ‘green list’ of countries, whereby quarantine is no longer necessary (PCR tests are still a requirement though)

ART STUDIO

We’ve also rented a lodge to an artist, Barry Allan Scott, so if you see some disembodied sculptures through the window of Lodge 6, do not be alarmed 😀

Barry is a very talented artist and would be happy to run some of his classes for our guests if that would be of interest.
