Beating the Weather

Let’s face it; we’ve had a damp Summer so far. I know there have been the odd days of sunshine … but not too many of them. So we have a couple of choices. We can moan about the weather or we can adapt (without moaning) to the conditions.

So we decided to get outside and enjoy a walk in the mist. We chose Loch Faskally, River Garry and River Tummel around the Pitlochry area, because the views of the water are stunning whatever the weather. And we were not disappointed. It wasn’t cold and it was lovely to walk right beside the edge of Loch Faskally, with its abundance of ducks (who were not talking about the weather!). We walked underneath the A9 bridge over Loch Faskally which won the Saltire Award for Civil Engineering Construction in 1981. It may not be a thing of beauty but it is still (pretty) amazing as a feat of engineering – if a little incongruous in an otherwise stunning location.

As we continued on our walk we walked through Faskally Wood, and then came out just underneath the Highland Fling Bungee Jump at Garry Bridge, Killicrankie, near Pitlochry. We heard screams and thought there might be a murrrrrderrrr. Then realised that people were throwing themselves off Garry Bridge … for fun!

We then found ourselves on a stony beach, watching the fish jump and lots of water fowl playing about. It was so relaxing, we could have stayed all day.

The last bit of our walk took us to the Linn of Tummel rapids, a real contrast to the deep and still River Garry.

It might have started to rain at this point – I’m not sure because we didn’t talk about it. Anyway, we had a great walk. it was only about 7 miles and pretty much on the flat with lovely views provided by the water.  It would be great on a sunny day as there are loads of places to have a dip. But we won’t talk about that.
