Sin + The Serpent of Capitalism
This exhibition combines masterpieces from the 16th century to the present day, examining the concept of sin and morality over time.
There are works of art brought from the National Gallery in London.
I kept returning again and again to Ron Mueck’s Youth.
This mixed media, of a young man examining his stab wound, is placed just in front of the oil painting
by Giovanni Antonio Galli, Christ Displaying his Wounds c1620
The facial expressions in both provoke an emotional reaction.
I was delighted to get up close to a Rembrandt! It was The Woman taken in Adultery, from 1644,
and it’s the scene in the bible when Jesus invites those without sin to cast the first stone.
This exhibition is on until 25th September.
A stunning installation by Glasgow-based artists, Walker and Bromwich.
It’s inspired by a 1900s poster with a serpent wrapping itself tightly around the world and the workers
As well as the giant serpent sculpture, there are drawings and photographs.
The Cosmic Serpent watercolour paper and ink, fascinated me and I had to trace all the words on the drawing from tail to head!
This exhibition is on until 30th October.
