Goodbye Archie

We first got Archie and Jock as babies. We had to bottle feed them 3 times a day for weeks. Those cute little goats grew much bigger than we had been led to believe they would!

I remember coming home one day and finding these two bundles of cuteness in my kitchen!

Archie and Jock both outgrew Timmy and soon Timmy was demoted to bottlewasher and Archie crowned himself King. When Jock died it was just Tim and Archie, who got along fine so long as Tim remembered who was boss – especially at meal times.

Jock and Archie were so playful and Archie was bereft when Jock died some time ago. Archie was the naughty one. In the photo below you can see him jumping the fence – despite the fact that John added an extra bar. He didn’t even take a run – he jumped from standing. So John had to put an extra-extra bar on the fence!

Recently Archie started to become unwell, and we tried everything in the hope that he would recover (even craft beer). He did perk up a bit after the beer  – in fact it was all he would take latterly. Then he just lay down and went to sleep.

Tim has been confused by the absence of Archie. He stands at the door bleating for him. So we’ve been taking him out of the large pen for walks. Normally he makes a bolt and we have trouble getting him back in. But now he sticks very close to us and doesn’t wander far.

We need to think about a wee friend for him soon.
