Burns Night in Perth

 

Robert Burns was born on 25^th January 1759. We celebrate the life and works of our great bard, on and around this date.

 

Our Rabbie will be honoured as part of the Perth Riverside Light Nights on 26^th and 27^th January, from 5pm to 10pm.

 

The Burns themed night of light and music starts with a parade on Saturday, from Perth City Centre, ending at Norie-Miller Walk. This is where the Burns entertainment is – including music, poetry, storytelling, and comedy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are many Burns suppers and celebrations on or around  Rabbie’s birthday. These suppers can be formal gatherings with serious scholars and musicians, or wildly informal gatherings. The common denominator is the eating of haggis, the drinking of whisky, and the reciting of poems by the bard, singing of songs and sometimes a wee bit of Scottish dancing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Or you can stay at home and have a family celebration with a dinner of haggis (veggie haggis is fantastic), bashed neeps and tatties all washed down with a nip of whisky to toast Rabbie. You can get your haggis from local butchers and supermarkets – both meaty and veggie.

 

Have fun reciting or singing “A Red Red Rose” and “Address to a Haggis” and “To a Mouse”, and many, many more.
