IN THE VILLAGE OF BRIDGE OF EARN
winner of the ‘Best Large Village’ Category  in ‘Take a Pride in Perthshire’.

- A few minutes walk  from the village of Bridge of Earn, and 3 miles away from The Fair City of Perth, winner of the Britain in Bloom, ‘Small City’ Category. With all this on your doorstep, why would you want to go anywhere else?

In the village of Bridge of Earn, there are four pubs.

The Cyprus Inn was built in 1700’s. Paddle steamers used to sail up the River Earn and the Cyprus Inn was popular with passengers. The Last Cast, The Kintail Lodge, and The Village Inn. There is a good Indian restaurant, The Spice Garden, in the village and a Chinese Takeaway.

The bowling club in the village welcomes visitors to play most afternoons, unless there are competitions taking place.

There are tennis courts next to the bowling green. Non-members can play for a nominal sum, outwith members’ nights and competition nights.

The Roost is a lovely coffee shop and restaurant just outside the village. All the food is homecooked and I can recommend it highly.

Farm Shop and Café. This is just outside the village, on the road to Perth. They have lots of unusual crafts in the shop as well as local foody delights. Home-cooked food and great service.

IN PERTH (winner of the ‘Small City’ Category in Britain in Bloom)

The Fair city of Perth is just 3 miles down the road from us, and lies by the banks of the ‘Silvery Tay’. Perth boasts many specialist shops and smart restaurants and cafes, as well as museums, art galleries, a theatre and state-of-the-art concert hall.

Caithness Glass Visitor Centre

The workshop has re-located from Perth to Crieff Visitor Centre. See the famous paperweights being made. Then you can nip into the shop and browse among the stunning pieces on sale, and have a coffee and cake in the café.

Castles and Stately Homes

Discover Scotland’s unique heritage and wealth of historic castles and ancient monuments from River Edge Lodges. There are so many of them that you won’t be able to see them all in one holiday.

Elcho Castle, near Bridge of Earn

A 16th century fortified mansion. It’s a lovely bike ride from River Edge Lodges (5 miles). Nesta Nicholson is very knowledgable about the history of Elcho Castle. There are Elizabethan clothes for the children to dress up in and some dresses for the ladies. Great fun for a photo opportunity. Also, there are boat trips from Broughty Ferry, near Dundee, to Elcho Castle.

Scone Palace

Just outside Perth, Scone Palace was the crowning place of Scottish Kings. The gardens are exquisitely well-maintained, and there is a maze and an adventure playground for children.

Falkland Palace

Steeped in history, Falkland Palace is a 16th century royal palace set in the medieval village of Falkland. Mary Queen of Scots used the chapel there, which is still in use today.

Glamis Castle

Glamis was the childhood home of the Queen Mother and the birthplace of Princess Margaret. Duncan’s Hall in the oldest part of the castle is the legendary setting for MacBeth. The guided tour is very informative and the gardens are lovely.
