Evelyn’s Ceilidh and Walks in Birnam and Dunkeld

Our friend Evelyn was celebrating her 60th birthday with a ceilidh last weekend. The ceilidh was held at the wonderful Birnam Arts Centre – home to the Beatrix Potter Exhibition. We stayed at the Merryburn Hotel which was quaint and cosy. After a couple of drinks in the bar, time was spent getting the kilt on and the sash sorted with the brooch.

The ceilidh was fabulous and everyone had lots of fun. The band was brilliant and we twirled and birled – starting off quite well, but as the night wore on and the wine took effect, some wrong steps may have been taken towards the end…

The next day we woke to this view from our cute bedroom:

A lovely little courtyard sprinkled with frost. We had a fabulous full Scottish vegetarian breakfast, then set off for a walk up Birnam Hill. We weren’t disappointed. It was a crisp and sunny November Sunday and the views were lovely.

We left the car in Birnam and hopped over the bridge into Dunkeld for some lunch and a bit of  Christmas shopping in the interesting little shops there.
