Golden Autumn

Hen and chicks

Mother hen and her chicks

You will never guess what??? Give in …? We have more chicks!!!! Aaaargh. I had a feeling that there were less eggs than usual, and that at least one of the hens must be sitting on eggs. I searched high and low for the clandestine nest. To no avail. Then … we discovered a gaggle of chicks … in the goat pen!! Please please please don’t let any of the chicks be cockerels. Watch this space.

I don’t know quite what happened to Summer but now Autumn is in full swing. Autumn is my favourite season. I’ve been busy cutting back the lavender and the heather. I love snipping the lavender – the smell is divine. Although our gardener said I’d been a tad brutal with one of the bushes cutting it back to certain death. Oops.

With the three kids back at Dundee University now, I decided to do a 6 week forensics course with Future Learn. It was called Identifying the Dead and it was fascinating. I was quite bereft when it finished. So I started another course on digital marketing. It’s all free, which is fantastic. I can recommend Future Learn courses.

We nipped away for a 4 day short break to Nothern Spain earlier this month. We flew from Edinburgh to Santander and did some walking in the Picos de Europa. Absolutely stunning.

The October holidays in Scotland are coming to an end and the holidays in England have just started. We have families arriving today; three of which have been before. It’s always nice to welcome people back. There are glorious golden and red Autumn colours to welcome them too.
